President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called on expatriate Bangladeshis to send remittances through official channels, referring to them as “remittance warriors” for their contributions.
In a meeting at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Sunday, the President addressed a delegation from NRB World, an organization representing non-resident Bangladeshis in around 50 countries. The Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reports that the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the President.
NRB World operates globally as a non-profit, non-political, and service-oriented organization. Its mission is to establish a strong bond between Bangladeshi residents and non-resident Bangladeshis, leveraging the talent, skills, and investments of the migrant community to contribute to the development of Bangladesh.
The 12-member delegation was led by NRB World President M Shahiduzzaman. During the meeting, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin briefed journalists on the discussions.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s investment-friendly environment, President Shahabuddin urged NRB World leaders to encourage foreign investors to invest in the country’s promising sectors. He acknowledged the significant economic contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates and encouraged them to actively participate in various events abroad, referring to them as the nation’s “ambassadors.”
The President assured the delegation that steps would be taken to ensure proper recognition for expatriates in Bangladesh. The NRB World delegation briefed the President on their activities, including their efforts in branding Bangladeshi products and services. They also advocated for the establishment of a Special Economic Zone for NRB investments in various sectors.
Bangabhaban Secretary Md Wahidul Islam Khan and senior civil and military officials attended the meeting at the President’s office.
