For the first time, the ‘American Curry Award 2024’ will be held in New York on Sunday, November 17. The inaugural ceremony will take place at ‘Terrace on the Park’ in Queens, New York. The American Curry Awards hosted a press meet at Khalil Biryani in Jamaica on Thursday, July 4. The event was attended by the award’s founder, Master Chef Md. Khalilur Rahman, co-founder Enamul Haque Enam, and Legal Advisor Master of Law N Mazumder.
In his written speech at the press conference, Md. Khalilur Rahman said, “I am a chef by profession.” Khalil is the founder, head chef, and CEO of Biryani House in New York. In a short period, Khalil Biryani House has become a popular and well-known food brand in New York and across the United States. Our dishes are equally popular among expatriate Bangladeshis, local Americans, and people from different countries around the world.
He also mentioned that their journey is relatively new. Khalil Biryani House started in New York in 2017. Despite being new, our food has quickly become a favorite. Recently, we launched a new dish called ‘Biden Biryani,’ named after US President Joe Biden. This exceptional dish has gained popularity in America. We aim to introduce more such dishes in the future.
Enamul Haque Enam, co-founder of the American Curry Award, highlighted that due to Khalil’s popularity and unique customer service, Khalil Biryani House and its head chef received one of the most prestigious awards from the United States government, the ‘Presidential Life Time Award.’ Additionally, in 2022, he received the ‘British Curry Award,’ known as the Oscar of the culinary industry, which is a very prestigious award.
He also said that after receiving the ‘British Curry Award,’ Master Chef Khalilur Rahman thought of creating an ‘American Curry Award’ similar to the ‘British Curry Award.’ He discussed this idea with me. I am the founder of Business America magazine and a driving force behind NRB World and the global NRB Chamber of Commerce and Industry. I have organized many international standard events in various countries, including America. Inspired by Khalil Bhai’s initiative, we started working on the ‘American Curry Award.’ The ‘British Curry Award’ authorities will fully support the ‘American Curry Award.’ We have completed all formalities with the ‘British Curry Award’ authorities.
During the press conference, the organizers mentioned that the ‘American Curry Award’ will be similar to the ‘British Curry Award’ but with significant differences. The main difference is the event’s venue. While the ‘British Curry Award’ is based in the UK and only British chefs can participate, the ‘American Curry Awards’ will not be limited to the US. Chefs from any part of the world can participate, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Italy, and Britain.
Khalilur Rahman also announced the opening of a Culinary Institute next year to train expatriate Bangladeshis and mainstream people in culinary arts.
