Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to negotiating a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, but any settlement must align with Russia’s core objectives, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a televised interview released Sunday.
Speaking to state TV journalist Pavel Zarubin, Peskov emphasized that while Putin is ready to work toward peace, the process will be long and complex. “President Putin has repeatedly expressed his desire for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine, but this requires significant effort and cannot be achieved overnight,” he said.
Peskov also addressed comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that while Trump’s rhetoric can be “harsh,” he has also expressed interest in pursuing a peace deal with Russia. “The world has grown used to Trump’s direct language, but he has also clearly stated his intent to seek peace, which we take note of,” Peskov added.
